Witch Is The Best Smartphone

Motorola Droid is known as the next best thing after Apple iPhones. In fact, Motorola has in the past made its presence felt amongst the mobile users with its MotoRazr series. Now it has recreated history with the introduction of Motorola Droid in collaboration with Verizon and Google. One can see it as a saving grace application for all the three corporate giants. What makes Droid a class apart form other smartphones is its updated Android 2.0 operating system. This grants you out of the world net surfing experience and many advanced and improved applications. Now why to choose Droid over iPhone? The answer is simple because you are getting a new, enhanced version of a smart phone wrapped in glass and metallic slider body. This instantly awards you the ownership of the only masculine looking tech-phone in today's times.

What more the phone features a 3.7 inch QVGA 854 X 480 touch screen display which is at par with any other touch phone. Although, multiple touch is inconspicuous by its absence in Droid, the 267 ppi pixel density with clearer font rendering makes up for this little flaw. QWERTY keyboard on its 13.7 mm thick narrow body puts it one step ahead of Apple iPhone 3GS. The camera quality too is respectable enough to boast of. There are 4 soft buttons on the front for navigation purposes which makes it easier for you to navigate the phone from single screen. Droid has also successfully created his fan following with the excellent sound quality that can teach a thing or two to the Apple phone series.

does cell phone antennas such as this work?
    http://www.cell-phone-antenna-booster-wholesale.com/
i am trying to boost the speed of my internet with it do they really work i have a sony ericsson z310a thanks

    • ANSWER:
No it is a total ripoff. It is a parasitic element. It steals power from the regular antenna and re-radiates it in another direction. So basically there is a 3% random chance that it will slightly improve the signal in the direction of the cell tower and a 97% chance it will reduce or even cancel the signal in the direction of the cell tower. Because in 3% of the cases it might help, it can legally call itself a "booster". But i will take my chances with the regular antenna and do the "can you hear me now" routine.

  6. QUESTION:
Why did the question I posted on Yahoo Answers about my cell phone end up on www.forums.intomobile.com?
I posted a question here on Yahoo Anwers and somehow it ended up on Intomobile Forums. At first I wondered if someone copied and pasted my question because they were wondering the same thing, but it actually had my Yahoo username beside it? Why is this?

    • ANSWER:
It's called a scraper site. Scraper sites are yet another misuse of the internet by classless dirtbags too lazy to get a job. There is usually no original content on such a site, it's been stolen from other sites.

These people employ the use of bots to search the internet for specific keywords then copy the content onto their own site. This makes their pages rank higher in the search engines so they get more hits so they make more money from the ads they place on their pages.

You can read about this type of site at

I've been trying for 4 days!!! I found an 888 number via a web search however am weary to call as I can not verify if it is a legitimate govt. number. These darn marketers keep calling and I'm paying for these calls!!! Arrgghh!!! Why isn't this illegal??? Any help will be much appreciated! Thanks!

    • ANSWER:
I just typed in the site (https://donotcall.gov/) and it's working fine for me. There's also a number listed (1-888-382-1222) for you to verify if you are on the list. You might try it and see if you can get put on the list by using that number.

FYI: If a telemarketer calls you and you don't want them to call you again. Tell them to put you on their "do not call" list and if you hear from them again, you will press charges. If you request to not be called again, they are supposed to comply with that request.

  31. QUESTION:
http://www.mobilerated.com/ free cell phone games question?
About a week ago I decided I wanted to look for free games for my cell phone and I found Mobile Rate.com. I thought it was really neat. I choose my phone and found some games I want. Because I don't have a data plan, I figured I would just use the download to computer option, the use the bluetooth to send them to my phone.

There is two options to download, (.jad or .jar) seeing as I don't know which one to use i downloaded both and sent them both to my phone (LG CU575 or LG Trax, same phone). Once on my phone, they do nothing. The phone just sees them as unknown files. I can't do anything with them except for delete them, send to another phone w/ bluetooth, rename, etc.

To try it another way, I added the same file to a MicroSD card only to get the same results. To try a sligtly different way, I was able to extract the .jar file using Winrar. I added the extracted files to the MicroSD card too, yet again without luck.

Does anyone have any ideas what i'm doing wrong?
My phone is Java compliant. When I added the files to the MicroSD card, I even added it to the "JAVA" folder. And like I said earlier, the web site says these games will work with my phone.

    • ANSWER:
OK well by the sounds of things your phone does not have java (thats what the jar and jad files are). The jar and jad files are compiled java applications - meaning they have been put nito files so that they can be run - and therefore using winrar only decompiles them. If the case is that your phone is not java enabled, you need to find .sdc games instead(not quites sure on the exact extention). A simple google search should turn some up.

first you have to let them know you've been doing your research. go online and pull up info on att.com about how much it will be to add you to their plan. and when you go to ask them have that with you. also make sure you have a picture of the phone with you.
next one day when they are not busy and they are together(never ask one parent alone or else they say " go ask your father" or "i dont know go ask your mom") this way you wont have to explain it twice. and say "mom, dad what do you think about me getting a cell phone" and before they answer tell them all the information $ wise and then wait for them to answer. dont tell them "im willing to do chores and feed the dog" and all that other stuff until they answer because it makes you sound desperate. you only say this if they are taking a long time to answer or if they say no. and after you bribe them if they still say no, start doing the things you told them you would do even though they said no. after doing the chores for about a month ask them again because they probably will have noticed your change of behavior and think that you have "become more responsible"

  38. QUESTION:
Why is it not illegal EVERYWHERE to speak on a cell phone while driving?
I read that statistics show that drunk drivers cause less accidents than people on cell phones do. Is there anything that is really THAT pressing that you cant wait until your car is parked? Is there anyone out there who has not had a close call because of a driver on the phone? Have a look at this list of countries that have and have not banned cell phones while driving. Buckle your seat belt and hang up the damn phone!
    http://www.cellular-news.com/car_bans/

    • ANSWER:
      Because they are generally redundant.

Most states already have laws against driving while impaired (not just intoxicated), and/or for driving in a manner that does not meet the requirements of due care.

These laws are equally applicable to driving using cell phones, driving while eating or putting on make-up, or driving while having sex.

It's really not necessary to pass a law prohibiting every single one of these activities individually, since the general law against being careless and driving while distracted would already apply.

Besides, let's say the law gets passed. Does it apply to hands-free conversations? Does it matter whether the hands-free is a headset or speakerphone? Does it matter whether the call is income or outgoing?

Is driving while talking on a speakerphone really any more dangerous than driving while talking to someone in the backseat of your car? Do you want to ban all conversations inside vehicles, because they might be distracting?

I'm not saying that people have a right to be stupid and careless. I'm saying that we already have generally applicable laws that prohibit being stupid and careless, and we don't need another specific one that won't add anything, and will just result in more legal arguments.

    • ANSWER:
      Ok, I have this phone.
      It's like super cool.
I'm only 13 and this is a great phone.
For a first phone, it's a little complicated but you can figure it out after 2 days because when you first get it, it's VERYYYYY hard to put down. It has bluetooth so you can get ringtones from all your ringtones.
You can browse the internet if you like. You can do alot of things with this phone. I'm the first person with this phone in my very small town in Louisiana and EVERY single person that has seen me with it has complimented me. I have my friends mom's that ask what network I'm on because they want to switch over to get this. I mean people will be very jealous of this phone. And a plus is that the battery lasts forever it seems like! Okay, I've sent/recieved 3,000 something texts since the 25th of july (you do the math of how many texts a day, haha sorry) so basically I'm a text-a-holic and I charge it every 2-3 days. Which isn't bad to me. But if you sit and have an 1 1/2 hr conversation on the phone it can kinda drain. Oh, and many people say this phone's QWERTY keyboard is crap. But its really easy for me. It's way easier if you don't have long thumb nails, lol. If you are a little unsure about they keyboard then go to an At&t store and try it out for yourself.
Email me if you have a specific question about this phone that I didn't answer. By the way, you can watch manyyy videos on YouTube about this phone.

  45. QUESTION:
Do you like Chinese brand cell phone?
    such as CECT P168,T32,SCIPHONE I68,I9

    and so on.

that site have many Chinese brand cell phone:
    www.it-kingdom.com

    Which one should I take?
Can you give me some advise?

    • ANSWER:
Speaking as somebody whose actually used Chinese brand phones, there is absolutely nothing wrong with them. Don't forget that foreign brand phones are made in China, too. Chinese cellphones are made in exactly the same factories as American/European/Korean/Japanese brand cellphones using exactly the same materials and by exactly the same workers. In fact many Chinese brand cellphones are knockoff versions of foreign cellphones and are almost identical except for their outer casing.

Buy whatever phone has the contract and features that you want. When it comes to The same rules apply with Western or Japanese phones when it comes to price/quality. You buy a cheap phone you get low quality, you buy an expensive phone you get more with it.

Many Chinese do not have land line phones and cannot afford to keep buying new cellphones so it is very important for them to get a phone that works and keeps working. For this reason Chinese make very good quality phones.

  46. QUESTION:
what is the difference between a normal cell phone and a refurb?
im looking at the samsung a737
    normal:http://www.wireless.att.com/cell-phone-service/cell-phone-details/?device=Samsung+A737+-+Blue&q_sku=sku1080013
    Refurb:http://www.wireless.att.com/cell-phone-service/cell-phone-details/?device=Samsung+A737+-+Blue+(Refurb)&q_sku=sku1170003

remember 10 points for best answer!

    • ANSWER:
      1: price
2: fingermarks......refurb is the same phone, cleaned up and repacked in original-looking packaging. (refurbished = renovated)They are usually returns from people who changed their minds or found them too hard to use etc, and would have had no more than 4 or 5 hours use, usually. These can be a good buy esp if they are offering new-phone warranty.

  47. QUESTION:
What cell phone providers will work with this phone?
Since my current phone is old and hardly works any more, I'm getting a new phone for christmas. I like this phone:

    http://www.shenit.com/2035-hello-kitty-c90-quad-band-dual-sim-with-bluetooth-phone-white.html

But, I'm not sure what it will work with. I have the AT&T go phone plan right now. Could I somehow transfer the plan to this new phone? My mom is also willing to get me a new plan with a different company.

    • ANSWER:
Technically, the specs for this phone would work with AT&T, as long as the phone is "unlocked" (Which it *probably* is...) However I don't know if AT&T allows you to use other phones on a pre-paid plan... I would suspect they WOULD allow it, since they actually LOOSE money when supplying the cheap phones for pre-paid accounts, and shouldn't care that you are getting a different phone, but I would check with AT&T just to make sure, before you spend that kind of money on a "paper weight"

  50. QUESTION:
How does this cell phone plan work?
    http://www.wireless.att.com/cell-phone-service/cell-phone-plans/individual-cell-phone-plans.jsp

The first one that cost 39.99 a month, on nights and weekend, it says includes 5000, does that mean every weekend it gives me 5,000 free minutes?

    Thanks :)

    • ANSWER:
No, it means that you get a maximum of 5000 free night and weekend minutes per month. If you run over the 5000 free minutes, then they will start taking minutes away from your 450 monthly included minutes (Unless you've already used that up). After all of those minutes are used up, then you will have to pay 45 cents per minute, even if it's at night or on the weekend. But, 5000 minutes is 83.3 hours of service, and that's a lot of calling. (I have 1000 minutes per month, and I don't use all of it...)

Wireless Telephone Plans

Trying to locate and identify the owners of unknown wireless numbers used to be a task that was darn near impossible. Free phone directories didn't carry these numbers so the only way to get to the bottom of things was to either try working with a private investigator or the police. This was enough to prevent many people from taking the matter any further.

But, within the last few years, the major cell phone companies that own the private information behind wireless numbers collectively decided to make this information available to public. They do this by selling this data to reverse cell phone directories. These directories then assimilate this data into one huge database and distribute this information in the form of individual reports.

Doing a mobile telephone number search is actually a very simple thing to do today because of major advancements in data warehousing and technology. In days gone by, thick telephone books contained the personal information connected to phone numbers. All you needed to do was go through the thousands and thousands of pages to find whom you were looking for.

Is it necessary to have a telephone service to be able to subscribe the internet?
We're thinking of subscribing to PLDT MyDSL and looking through their plans it seems that they all come with free telephone service for some months/years. I am planning on buying a wireless netgear router to use with my ps3 and I am not sure if i need the modem that I currently own or just the router. Do I also need telephone cable to connect it to my computer.

    • ANSWER:
If you are planning to get a router for PS3, you will definitely require a modem. The router will connect to the modem and through an ethernet cable, your netgear router will connect to your modem-also using an ethernet cable. Once your router is connected, you will need 2 more ethernet cables: One connecting your router to your computer and about from your router to PS3. If you choose to use your TV, there are additional instructions for that as well. Those instructions should be found in the quick reference guide. I hope that helps

  5. QUESTION:
I hear a lot of talk about how sprint is better than AT&T; Does that hold with two person family plans?
I currently have a AT&T family play (I think) for two IPhones.

On the main phone, essentially we have 1400 anytime minutes with three way calling
Unlimited night and weekend minutes and unlimited M2M expanded (w/e that is).
As part of the "wireless data" we have "data plan iphone" with "data unlimited". We also have "iphone messaging unlimited". AT&T's bill is strangly configured but the way it looks is, we pay 80$ for the telephone service, 30$ for the data and 20$ for the messaging.

    Taxes are 15.60$

The second phone "summary" is also strangely worded, but it looks like, we pay 9.99$ for the phone service using the 1400 minutes.
It then says 20$ for the Iphone data +200 (what ever that is, i think it's "unlimited data" and 200 media max messages) There is another 4$ in taxes for the second phone.

It seems like the total for 1400 minutes, unlimited data and unlimited messaging is 80+30+20+20+10 = 160. With another 20 in taxes =/.

Is there a sprint wireless plan that would save me enough money for two phones over this AT&T plan? I am thinking of selling our Iphones and getting HTC Evos.

I am looking at this plan.

  7. QUESTION:
Do I need a plan to use the ipod touch for calendar and contacts?
My old Palm is slowing dying and I need an electronic calendar and a place for my contacts list. I do not need a phone, camera. Can I use the iPod Touch like a PDA and ignore the rest or do I need to sign up with a plan through a telephone company. I realize it is wireless so can it pick up from my router?

    • ANSWER:
No you do not need a plan. You can use the ipod touch straight from when you buy it. You can use the contacts list and calender for free. There is also a place where you can write notes which you might need. You can ignore or remove any features you do not want. It is wireless so it can pick of your router, for free.

Who knows, you might end up using your ipod touch to listen to music. Also, there are apps for it which can make it more like a PDA including timers, calculators, games, personal organizers and more.

  8. QUESTION:

  9. QUESTION:
    In-home telephone technology?
I am planning to "update" my home telephone system.
Is a [hard-wired system] still as "accurate" as a wireLESS system?
My home was built in 1983 with all hard wiring that is decomposing in my walls!
(Jeesh! - these builders surely used CHEAP materials back then!)

    • ANSWER:
These days you really only need just one good telephone jack and a cordless phone system. With cordless phones, you can have various cordless extensions with no extra extension wiring required.
And, now days more and more people are using VoIP for their telephone services, in which case you only need high-speed Internet added to your cable TV service (which is what I use).

  10. QUESTION:
If I live in the US, relocating to Europe, how should I deal with my cell phone?
My family lives in the US and has a family plan with Verizon Wireless. We still have a year left on a 2-year contract. All of our telephone numbers are portable. It is vital that we keep two of our three numbers for incoming calls. We are moving to London for 2 years and will be coming back to the US after that. When we are in London, we will need to place local calls, calls to each other (the most, by far) and a few calls back to the U.S. In addition, we need to be able to take incoming calls (or at least receive messages) from the U.S. What is the least expensive way to make this work? P.S. Our telephones are old so we will want to replace them as well. Thanks!

    • ANSWER:
You may be able to get a World phone connection...but this will require you getting new phones that can be used overseas. You'll get new phones this way (since most likely your old phones won't have the technology to be used overseas), but Verizon may be able to help you out more with the details.

  11. QUESTION:
I have DSL at my home through my telephone company. I am planning on buying a laptop and want to know how to
use the wireless feature...do I need another provider just for the laptop?

    • ANSWER:
No, you want to purchase a wireless router for your DSL connection. You can plug in the desktop computer to the router, and connect your laptop's wireless using the same connection.

Buy a Linksys router. Their documentation has good instructions on how to accomplish all this.

  12. QUESTION:
Should I re-enroll w. my CELLULAR phone or change to a wireless system?
    Hi all,
I am trying to decide whether I should re-enroll my Celluar telephone service or change to a wireless phone co. in addition to my home telephone line.
My Cellular phone contract will expire in March so I am looking at any other option I have available.
I plan to keep my home landline service as my ISP is a dial-up server.
I reason that since my dial-up ISP costs only , I should keep it for this price.
I am still under my Cellular contract with a monthly .00 fee. - I have kept this "cheaper" cellular service with my "older than dirt" cell phone.
LUCKILY, this phone has had no "serious" repair needs.......... until recently. My battery is wearing out and I may need to replace it at a higher cost for each battery I buy.
I am offered to "upgrade" to a service w. my cell phone carrier.
I am considering to change to WIRELESS phone server (maybe VERIZON?)
Help me decide which is my best option and help me consider any oversight I am not considering.
    Thanks.

    • ANSWER:
So here goes... I'm not sure about the other wireless companies' plans, but I know that with Sprint, you can get a plan for your wireless phone at as low as .99 with 200 minutes and nights and weekends starting at 7pm or .99 for a plan with 450 minutes with nights/weekends at 7pm PLUS Unlimited Sprint to Sprint or Sprint to Nextel calling. For home service, you can pay extra a month for unlimited home service including some long distance. .99 on top of that, and you have high speed braodband capable internet on your laptop NATIONWIDE UNLIMITED....... like I said, no idea what the others carry, but I know this is a good deal...

  13. QUESTION:

Last week i added voice of ip telephone services to my cable plan so when they hooked it up they had to give me a new modem that had phoneline hookups. ever since, my belkin wireless g has limited or no connectivity, or if i fidget with it enough my belkin will get internet but not my desktop.

the modem is the scientific atlanta DPL2203 i believe or something to that effect.

i dont know if its because they are incompatable or what. all i know is that i'm going to go buy a new laptop tonight and it would be nice to have it fixed (even if it means having to buy a wireless n router)

just before you guys say to unplug them all and reset them, ive already tried.... to no avail.

    thanks!

    • ANSWER:
The simple answer is that you now have TWO ROUTERS! Your Belkin and the DPC2203. Both are probably attempting to use the SAME local IP ranges! like 192.168.1.x
Connect a computer directly to the 2203 you will connect and will get on the internet. While there check the IP issued to your computer.
On Windows, you can do this from a Command Prompt, just type
ipconfig /all thats ipconfig(a space)/all read the IP address, the Subnet, and the Gateway (the gateway is the 2203 address.

Then connect your Belkin and check the IP its using. IF the two LOCAL RANGES are the same. You have to change the one for the BELKIN.. you can use 192.168.0.x or 192.168.10.x etc just not the same one as the DPC2203.

You can also disable the DCHP on the belkin, and connect the output of the 2203 to any of the LAN ports without using the WAN/Internet port of the Belkin -- this makes it a simple access point and the 2203 then handles the routing!

Here is a nice note from DSL reports that might also help you.
      http://www.dslreports.com/forum/r21517239-Access-Web-page-on-SA-Webstar-DPC2203

Running two routers, does require understanding of networks and routing! You can not have two on the same subnet/IP ranges! They won't work. Having two routers also means the second router should be set to the DMZ on the first router (if you need portforwarding for games etc!)

  14. QUESTION:
I need addresses to specific bill collectors that are on my credit report. How do I get their addresses?
On my credit report, I owe Capital Accts, CBSI, Central FinL Control, Cornerstone Credit, Franklin Collection, NCo-MEDCLR, Revcare Inc, RJM ACQ LLC, and Verizon Wireless. That's fine, but I need to know how much i owe to these people so I can start a payment plan. Can you help me get in contact with them via addresses or telephone numbers?

    • ANSWER:
Just google them. I searched and within a few seconds I got Franklin Collection's address:

      Franklin Collection Service, Inc
      2978 West Jackson Street
      Tupelo, MS 38801

Look for sites that are or will provide the corporate and/or head billing address.

  16. QUESTION:
telephone wall socket extension, for internet! boost signal?
hi, at the moment we have a wireless modem downstairs connected to where the main telephone wall socket is, near the front door. 3 people in the house have computers running from the single modem and i find it to be quite sluggish, maybe this has something to do with the 3 comps connected to it or it could be that the modem is sooo far away that i'm hardly picking up signal. the 2 other computers in the house run fine every single time and its always mine that is slow as i'm the furthest away :(

i suddenly thought of an idea, which is to to use an telephone extender kit such as this one http://www.ebuyer.com/product/57732 from my wall socket downstairs, run it upstairs and then connect my wireless modem to the female end of this lead. this way i can have the modem upstairs.

I just want to know if this is possible, has anyone tried it? will i loose more signal though the length of the wire as opposed to loosing wireless signal if the modem is left downstairs, which has a greater loss?

I'm planning to plug my modem upstairs in hope that it will increase signal as it is closer to my comp. can somebody give me some insight on this idea please, thank you soooo much:)
yep Ernie its a DSL modem/router which is downstairs. i would like to move this upstairs somehow in hope to improve signal.
We only have ONE telephone connected to the external connection as there is only one socket in the house(downstairs)

the thing is, my wireless modem/router needs to be connected to a phone socket, the only way to bring a socket upstairs is to use a extension cable (i think).

one point i need to make which is, only two of the three comps are picking up wireless and the third (not mine) is connected to the modem with a wire.

    • ANSWER:
Most likely your wireless modem is a router/modem combo. Why not save yourself trouble and
      A. Run ethernet to your computer
      B. Use powerline internet networking, which is explained here: http://www.netgear.com/Solutions/HomeNetworking/PowerlineNetworking.aspx

      C. The sell powerline phone networking, which works the same way as the internet networking but for phones. The sell for about 60.00 bucks for a pair of adapters. Plug one into your wall socket downstairs. Then find a middle place in your home with a power socket and plug the other adapter in there. That way, everyone has a good signal and your router is in a central place. You also don't have to run cables!

  17. QUESTION:
    wireless router connection at home?
I'm going to be working at home on my computer. I'll be using a combination of the computer, cable internet and telephone. Right now we have one desktop computer for all members of our household to use. I plan to buy a laptop with wifi wireless capabilities so that I can work privately in a separate room. My desktop (as far as I'm aware) does NOT have a wireless card of any kind installed. If I purchase a wireless router will the laptop work with my desktop or will I have to install a wireless card in my desktop as well.

    • ANSWER:
With a wireless router your laptop will connect wirelesslyto the router, your desktop can remain connected via ethernet cable to the router as well, no need for a wireless card for the desktop. If you want to access the desktop with the laptop...just set up sharing over your new LAN. Welcome to networking.

  18. QUESTION:
Viability of a telephone extension cable?
Right, long story short my thrid floor phone socket is faulty so I need to use one of the other's to allow my pc onto the net.

I am planning on going wireless and putting the router on the middle floor. All is well I thought, but then I realised my Xbox needs an ethernet cable (ie I can't make it wireless), so my question is: if I ran a normal 'phone extension cable from the middle floor socket to the top floor would that be almost the same as the internal wiring would have been?

I know they lose signal the longer the wire but it was already using a wire inside the wall, so shouldn't my telehone extension cable just be the same?
    Thanks all.
I think you all have it but just to clarify, my main socket (1st floor) and my second socket (2nd floor) both seem to work fine, the 3rd floor one loses connection a lot. So given the 3rd floor one is connected with wire to the main one I assume the signal quality will be the same if I use a length of extension cable as to what it was before the current wires broke/became faulty.

I will get an extension cable anyway

    • ANSWER:
As a suggestion, you can buy proper kits with about 30 meters of extension wire. It comes with a proper wall socket, cable and clips.

It included a wiring diagram on how to wire into the other wall socket where you were taking the extension from, so it looked a professional job.

Argos used to do them but I dont know whether they still do.

  19. QUESTION:
Urgent! I just learned that there is no wireless internet in my dorm room?
Ok, so I just reread the FAQ's for on-campus housing, and I see this:

Each resident’s room is equipped with a live telephone line and a data port. If you plan on connecting to the internet, you will need to supply your own Ethernet cord (cat5). Unfortunately there is no wireless access in the rooms.

WHAT? I paid ,000 for this????

If there is only one data port, can I plug an ethernet cable into it and have a router so that my room mate and I can BOTH have internet???

    • ANSWER:
generally there is one port per person in the rooms... but yes you could get a router, just make sure you put a password on it so people around you dont connect and bogg down your network

some schools dont technically allow you to have a wireless network, I know my last one didnt, but getting caught is near impossible and they cant really do anything about it

    powerline ethernet to wireless router?
hi, i am planning to change my ISP. the problem is that the telephone cable is on the upstairs, while most users with computers are in downstairs. i am looking to connect the modem in upstairs into a powerline adapter in upstairs and then from powerline adapter in downstairs into a wireless router in downstairs. can i simply do it or do i have to buy other special equipments? thanks!!
i just want to know whether it possible to do things like this: internet(telephone line upstairs)-->modem upstairs-->powerline adapter wall upstairs--.powerline wall downstairs-->wireless router downstairs-->>all laptops downstairs

    • ANSWER:
I can't tell you about special equipment. But, I recently installed a BT Vision box which came with powerline adaptors. All I did was to plug the adaptors into the wall sockets (must be wall and not trailer sockets) and then plug 1 ethernet cable into the port on the router and the other into my laptop as a test. No configuration at all. I was amazed at the simplicity of it all and at the Internet speed on my laptop which was as good as WiFi if not better. Good luck with your config!

  22. QUESTION:
If I tell Verizon Wireless I will be living in another country do I still have to pay end contract fee?
I want to end my contract with Verizon so badly, but I was told I would have to owe 5 dollars by one of the customer care representatives. I want to switch to a different company that offers cheaper plans, like straight talk through walmart because a buddy of mine uses that, and he hasn't had any problems with that service. Anyways, I was thinking I could go to the extreme and lie to Verizon saying that I will be living in another country with one of my relatives for a few months, so I don't have any use for Verizon because I'm getting on a phone plan with my relative or that we are splitting the cost of the telephone bill where we are staying, something like that. I hate lying and never do, but I think it's ridiculous that there are cell phone contracts that make you pay so much money to get out of and I just need a company cheaper with the struggling economy. Do you think my idea will work, or will Verizon just suspend my account until they think I will get back in our country, and than my contract will continue? Will I have to show proof that I will be moving to another country even if I play it off like I am really well? Any information will be helpful.

    • ANSWER:
No you would have to keep your account active until your contract ends unless you would have to cancel your contract and end up paying 5 because when you first signed up into verizon there was a contract you had to sign and you have to abide and keep your account active until your contract date ends. I hoped I helped

I'm not to sure how this USB Wireless LAN works please may you help me?
    http://www.play.com/PC/PCs/4-/3593637/Sweex-Wireless-LAN-USB-2-0-Adapter-54-Mbps/ProductReviews.html?cpage=2

Well yeah i'm planning on getting this to run my laptop and my ps3 on. But i dont have a telephone line in my room? But i want to go by ethernet cable? So by having this do i just plug it into the usb port on my ps3 and thats it and set it up by the ps3 by searching for it? sorry but im confused on how this really works your help will be really appreciated :)

    • ANSWER:
      ok...this is how it works.

the usb adapter works as an antenna that is gonna catch a signal from your wireless router. inorder for the internet to work, you have to have a wireless router. looks like this...
      http://www.mobysweb.com/images/wireless-network-new-4.jpg

okay....if you are trying to go on the interent thing on ps3...u dont need this usb adapter. you are gonna have to get a wireless router...like pictured above...and you're gonna need a wireless adapter that goes to the ps3 (if they make them...i know they do for xbox360).

inorder to use an ethernet cable, you're gonna need a telephone jack in your room because you are gonna have to hook up some type of router and then connect the router to the ps3.

so, there is really no point of having that adapter thing that you plan on getting. unless you want to use it on ur laptop. but even then, you still have to have wireless internet in your house to do so.

For the internet what is better wireless router or modem? which one is faster? help !!!!!!!!!!!?
Today i changed my plan for the high speed internet i had to use a modem but then i wanted a high speed but they said i dont need it because they could just add the speed to my telephone line is it true? Is it same quality? I got Verizon. help!!1

    • ANSWER:
Yeah, well DSL's version of "high speed" is pretty funny. Wireless is a slower connection than a "land-line" connection. I use Cable Broadband connection, and my internet works super fast. It also depends on your area though, because I've seen some places where DSL is really fast and cable is slow. I find myself getting really impatient using other people's computers though because mine is so fast.

  27. QUESTION:
how can I monitor data usage in my house?
I am flating with two flatmates. Our internet usuage is sky rocketing with peak at 180G/month, because my internet provider does not put a barrier for usage over the telephone plan. I use less than 5G/month. Both flatmates said they didn't use that much. We use wireless router to connect. Is there any way that I can check each person usage ?
I can check the total usage throught ISP provider, but with two flatmates, I can't tell who use the data. Its impossible for each of us to have our own ISP plan without getting two more lines in the house,

    • ANSWER:
Most Service Providers have a Byte counter monitor you can down load but why bother. Get your own ISP and Plan. Pay your 1/3 share of any Land Line (phone line) and leave them to scrabble over the growing wireless 'G' usage each month. doc

  29. QUESTION:
HELP!! I'm going to college on August 25 should I keep my verizon wireless dumb phone or get a motorola charm?
Help, I am in major panic mode. My parental units are dysfunctional. They refused to instruct me in driving when I was 15 and eager to start learning, telling me I can do it myself. I barely graduated high school because I could not get on a computer. My family owns three computers and the one I operated on for 20 minutes a day!!! to do high school level schoolwork, was traded. We always own three computers but my stepfather is unpredictable. It always seems as I am doing something wrong, when I am trying to operate as a functioning and productive member of society. I barely graduated high school and have little to no life or social skills. Now I am supposed to move into a residence paid for almost entirely by my father to go to college. I have no way of getting a computer!!
    I figured I would need a cellular telephone to correspond with potential employers and job offers. My family has t mobile but I know absolutely nothing about t mobile, so I subscribed to verizon ( I am in the chicago area). My mother at the time was trying to get into a 79.99 two line family plan, which is obscene due to her financial standing, and when times get rough phones are first to get switched off. So I thought if anything with verizon I can reduce my post-pay to and be able to reasonably pay this. My family is unreliable so one second they say I will have a computer the next second they say I am responsible for absolutely everything myself. Motorola announced the charm, a full qwerty android capable phone, last week, arriving august 25. I looked into android and realized with unlimited data , I can be capable of social networking in order to obtain employment and fill in educational gaps with it. FOr example I can compose emails, to complete essay requirements for school and use public computers to compose powerpoints and publications. I would not need a computer. I live in an urban area so coverage is not a problem? I don't know anything about GSM networks though, is the internet 3G, with t mobile, in chicago? SHould I pay the 205 dollar fee and go on with it knowing I could never switch back to verizon if they expanded 4G and my education went upside down? Is this entire plan crazy? ;_;

    • ANSWER:
Android is a good way to go if you get the later phones, like the Motorola Droid X or Droid Incredible as they will be very functional. With Google supporting things like GoogleDocs, which are compatible with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and other like programs, Android might very well be your solution.

Some would say to just go to Craigslist and try to find a Netbook which is exactly what you need for what you want to do. But, why get a netbook if an Android phone can do all of the same? Well, perhaps a good argument would be that if you buy a netbook, say for 0 on Craigslist, eBay, or Amazon, at least you would not have the added expense of a monthly fee to use it as you would have with a Smart or shall I say Superphone. Also, remember that, with places like McDonald's and Starbucks offering FREE wifi, you will be able to use your netbook anywhere with few limitations.

So, while owning an Android phone could be very practical, the costs add up. If you go out to eat often and don't mind sparing the line cost plus the data plan premium, then I would go for the Android phones that I suggested.

Does anyone know if maybe theres a package with Bell?
We have wireless internet, and telephone through Bell.. We also want to get cable, and i need a new cell phone, so does anyone know if Bell does like a 4 way package?

    Any reccomendations would be appreciated!

    • ANSWER:
Hello, my name is Nick and I'll be glad to assist you. Bell was at one point partnered with Cingular but has recently dropped that contract and bell is no longer partnered with a cell phone carrier. ALL carriers have their Pros and Cons. The carrier with the fewest Cons, in my opinion is Verizon. The carrier with the MOST cons in probably Cingular. Here's a great breakdown:

If you want excellent coverage but at a slightly higer price:
      -Verizon Wireless is the best
Number 1 in the industry for Customer Service
Number 1 in the industry for Call Quality
They offer competative rates but do not offer a complete UNLIMITED text plan. They offer a plan with UNLIMITED IN with 500 additional messages for .00 a month.
UNLIMITED Nights and Weekends. Nights start at 9:01 pm and go to 5:59 am. ON ALL CALLING PLANS
They offer a Test Drive promotion. If you choose to try Verizon but aren't saticfied with it return your phone within 30 days and recieve your money back and not be charged for the monthly access or airtime...just pay for the additional features you add.

If you want GREAT pricing but VERY poor service:
      -T-Mobile might be great
They are rated number 2 in Customer Service
      Slightly poor Call Quality
      Great international services
      HORRIBLE national service
      A lot of roaming
      unlimited messaging for .00
      NO free nights, just weekends
      Very competative prices

If you want a poor network with slightly higher prices:
      -Cingular would be the best
Has been rated the worst by JD Power in every category
      Higher prices
Unlimited Cingular 2 Cingular .00-NO ADDITIONAL
***Unlimited Nights a 9:00 pm to 5:58 am and Unlimited weekends.
Worst CUSTOMER SERVICE in the industry.
*** means on calling plans 59.99 or higher.

Sprint and nextel fall around the same spot as cingular with coverage or call quality and do not currently offer any unlimited messaging plans. This has been based on JD power and some personal opionions.

  33. QUESTION:
Why won't my DSL work ?
Just signed with DODO for a wireless ADSL2 plan and was provided with a Netcomm Nb7plus4W modem router.
It powers on recognises the ethernet connection and the wireless light comes on but no dsl light.
It states "dsl line is not plugged in"
I'm using a 2 meter long telephone cable provided with the router with 1 side plugged in the router and the other end straight in the telephone jack port on the wall.
I have tried switching off the modem for 10 sec then back on again, hitting the reset it button, but still no success.
I switched telephone cables and again nothing.
I called customer support but they were unable to find a solution.
    What should I do ?

    • ANSWER:
My guess is that the phones may be interfering with the dsl modem so hook up dsl filters so the dsl wont be interrupted. If still no look try to make sure you get a dial tone. If you still cant get it try to return the modem.

I figure, it will require the following additional stuff at a minimum:

    Hardware:

    RAM (2 GB)
    Ethernet adapter
    Wireless adapter

    Software:
    Operating system (Windows 7)
    Anti-virus (AVG)
    Firewall (Zonealarm)

Questions: Will I need anything else to make it work as I plan? Please let me know.

  39. QUESTION:
Will connecting a router to another router cause any problems?
I just moved into my uncle's house for college and found out I can't play any of my PC games (Warcraft, Dawn of War, MW2) without disconnecting after about five mins. We currently have Verizon DSL with 1.5mbs download and .36Mb/s upload and I am on a wireless connection. His main setup is downstairs and my room is upstairs. There's no way I can put a wire through the floors for a good wired connection so I resort to the wireless USB thing.

The modem we have is a Westell VersaLink Model 372W. It has the modem and a router in one. We also have the T Mobile @Home HiPort UMA Telephone Adapter for the home phone (Model UTA200-TM) that connects to the Modem/Router and computer. I don't know what kind of wireless connection we're running on but I'm planning on buying a Wireless N router to experiment around and see if it'll help me with the latency problems. Will connecting the Westell Modem/Router to a Wireless N Router cause any problems?

    Thanks in advance!

    • ANSWER:
      Short answer:

Yep, most likely. Consumer-grade routers usually can't handle more 'complex' routes like this. It can be done (on most devices) by NOT using the WAN port on the second router. i.e. The first router plugs into one of the regular ports on the second device. The LAN ports are usually bridged, effectively defeating the router side of the appliance and turning it into a hub w/ wireless.

If you'd like the long version, simply ask! :)

  40. QUESTION:
A bit of a dilemma with internet, computer and room mate. Recommendations please?
Hello. First of all let me just say that I dont have a lot of money. I dont have a huge income. And like many in our society as of the last year or so, I have suffered greatly due to economic changes. I make only about 0 profit per month, after bills and all that.

I had to make four major changes. One, I had to quit school for a few quarters (I will go back sooner or later). Two, I was forced into moving. Three, I had to sell my car. Four, I had to cancel my cell phone.

So I moved in with this dude, my room mate, for an exceptional rate of only 0 per month. Outstanding in this area. But a part of the deal when I moved in was that cable television and high speed internet was included as part of the rent. Along with that, I paid for unlimited telephone services for one whole year with Skype through the internet.

I rely on internet. Not only as a means to attend web-based classes. But also as my phone service. Also internet and television are (pathetically) my sole means of entertainment since I neither have transportation nor the money to spend on anything else.

Since then, my computer (a desktop PC) has broke down. Im in the market for a new one. Im not sure what to get, I was interested in the desktops. Really, even the cheapest 0 dollar desktops on the market will be a hell of a lot better than what I had, when it was working, even if I had upgraded it to max specs.

All I do is internet surf, run a mathematics CAS (as a math major), download music and movies... and Im interested in occasionally playing Sim City 4.

I had the idea to do laptops, but they arent my thing. I like the idea of free wifi at the local library, school and coffee houses. But it wasnt necessary.

Now, my room mate is telling me that he is going to cancel the cable. So I am going to be without internet, television, phone, unable to research or communicate with anyone I know, unable to attend school, etc. Im being backed into a corner, and in violation of the agreement we had when I moved in.

So I dont know what to do. A laptop is seeming much more appealing now, for the local wifi services. But then again... as I understand it even a desktop can be hooked up to some pretty high speed internet via cell phones and other wireless services. Is that better? I dont know. In fact, as I understand it, some modern cell phones are able to stream what is essentially cable television... that would be awesome, too.

Bandwidth and monthly pricing are concerns for me, obviously. And the computer has to have the ability to make the hookup.

But I dont know much about computers, I dont know much about cell phone services, plans or devices.

Im just wondering what the best options are for pricing and affordability, without too much of an inconvenience, and without too great of compromise to what amenities Im already getting under my current conditions.

So what say you tech guys?

    • ANSWER:
First off, NVidia is considered to be much better than AMD Radeon. I've seen AMD graphics cards burn out far too often to ever recommend them...

Secondly, if you want to game, don't get a mac, period.

Third, I recommend Dell's XPS laptops. I know they're bulky, but you get what you pay for in those things. They can really be rigged to be some of the fastest laptops out there right now.

Lastly, if you really want laptop gaming power, go to Alienware. The bad thing is, it comes at a cost. They have undoubtedly the most powerful laptops out there, but the markups on their prices are huge. What this means is, you are overpaying with alienware... but yet, you can't really get that kind of power anywhere else.

  42. QUESTION:
Can TV be run through Ethernet

Ok so I just bought an old 2 story house with an extremely small crawl space that does not have any telephone, cable, or Ethernet ran in it. I would like for my 3 bed rooms, the living room, the dining room, and possibly the kitchen to have a combination of Internet access and TV.

I already tried wireless but because of the old power wires and the materials in the walls, reception is very poor unless I'm in closet with the router.

I accept the fact that I need to run cables in the house however, I do not want to run both CAT6 and Coax. My current plan is to run 3 Ethernet cables per junction box per room. One for internet, one for TV, one for home audio control/MISC.

My Question: What are my options of running TV through Ethernet cabling? I want to avoid expensive bridging systems if possible!

    Thanks.

sim cards and world phone choices?
I plan to work in China and Asia early next year. I currently have a cingular wireless account in the USA. I understand it is too expensive to use my exsting phone service in China, especally since the majority of my telephone usage will be locally in China. My questions are this:

    1. Should I wait until I arrive in China, buy another phone there and just purchase new local sim cards or China network cards asI go like the USA Cingular "GoPhone"?

    2. If I buy a phone in China, can I buy one with English text on the phone and instructons?

    3. Should I buy a phone in the USA that is unlocked for accepting sim cards and has 3 or 4 compatibility and buy the sim cards in China?

4.Is there any way to "Have my cake and eat it too", ie.,have one phone, keep my USA cingular account for use in the USA, have a USA featured phone unlocked for global use AND be able to use the cheaper Chinese sim card system and their network?

we wont be stopping at hotels. too much money, were driving straight through

    • ANSWER:
You can't get any kind of wireless internet from a normal internet provider or buying anything from an electronic store. The only way to do it is by getting a ISP (Internet Service Provider) like Verizon who sends you a "satellite wireless internet". I think AT&T do it to. Sorry.

  46. QUESTION:
got cableTV(Charter) now. Planning to get high speed internet, can the cable be split 4 both tv and internet?
does the cable for the tv carry a completely different signal or can the single cable that goes into our tv just be slit for both the tv and Internet service?
or is it unavoidable by having to feed a new cable to the house with another separate cable from the street?
another problem when we get this service is that our house PC is in the Kitchen on the first floor and the Gaming console PS3 (wireless G)is in the attic along with another PC and a Laptop(WIRELESS N)
when the attic was made into a playroom we never thought of adding telephone or ethernet cables because we had wireless handset phones, only a TV cable for the media... this was done by a professional electrician about 10 years ago and was very expensive to get it to the top floor up the outside of the chimney. what should we do for these devices ?

    • ANSWER:
      1) The signals are completely different - which is ewhy they can be (and are) carried on the same cable. Yes, the cable can be (and usually is) split between TV and internet (then the TV side is split for asd many TV sets as you have).

      2) Use a good wireless router. (I recommend the Linksys WRT54GS or 54GL.) Put one antenna horizontal (the strongest signal is off the side, the weakest id off the end). Use a good adapter in the computer (WMP54GS).

N wireless is a lot faster than your internet connection (even G wireless is), and your downloads are limited to the SLOWEST part of the path, so using a G router won't slow down anything but transferring large files from one computer to another (and a flash drive and "sneaker net" [walking from one computer to the other] is a lot faster than a network).

Why Linksys, even though it's a little more expensive? They work. And keep working. If they were cars, you'd sell them out of boredom. (The one I'm using at home now [right now - on this connection] is one of the first ones Linksys made. It gets beat on every day, and it just keeps working. Boredom is a good thing with electronic devices.) Replacing a cheap router every year or two is a lot more expensive than paying a little more and running the same one for 10 years.

To me they seem quite similar except for the price. Sager= 09 and the Force= 93
The sager does have a better graphics card and cooling system but the force leaves me breathing room to buy office software for school.

I plan to play games such as GW2, WoW, Fiesta, Starcraft 2, MW2, BF2 and all that good stuff.

    So can anybody help me?

  49. QUESTION:
Would multiple 3G phones setup as multiwan increase data speeds?
We live in an area where we cannot get DSL or Cable. The only options we have for internet are satellite, sprint or verizon 3G at 200-600kbps, AT&T at 1.5-3Mbps (but with a 4-5GB cap), a 0 T1 line, dial up, or a "fixed wireless" signal, supposably at 1.5Mbps. I'm skeptical about the fixed wireless, and not sure if I want to spend the money to get started.

My other option is this... Our neighbor who lives a mile down the road can get DSL, yet we cannot. The telephone company does not seem to want to work with me in getting coverage here so I could get one or two dsl connections at our neighbor's place, and install an antenna on their roof, and one on ours. Problem is it'll take 0-0 to get started, and I don't know how I can talk our neighbors into letting us do it.

For now I really need a internet connection. I use my sprint phone, which can share its connection to my laptop but its slow. I average about 300kbps or so but with latency between 200 and at times as much as 3000. I think the problem is that I get such a weak signal the phone is constantly searching for a signal. Often I can see it coming in and out of coverage. I thought about installing a cell phone booster, but most if not all are made to take the outdoor signal and bring it indoors. The signal is about the same outdoors as it is indoors, so this will not help.

That said, I've been thinking about getting 4 virgin mobile phones and going with the unlimited plan. It runs on the sprint network, and it'll get about the same speeds as I get with my HTC EVO 4G. Although I've worked with a lot of routers before, and I've made my own router before, I've never done multi wan. I'm curious, four 200kbps connections doesn't make one 800kbps connection, does it??

If anything, I know having two will help because most of the delay is spent in the cell phone searching for a signal. Maybe having two to choose from will help. However, they come from the same tower.

Its either that or I go with AT&T. Unless I just get a data plan, I'd have to unlock my htc evo and change that over to AT&T, and pay sprint 0 for canceling. Either way, sprint is unlimited and AT&T is not.

    • ANSWER:
Your problem with any mobile broadband provider will be the "Fair Usage Limits".

"Unlimited Internet" is a term often used to market Internet, Cell Phone and Web Hosting services. Very seldom does it actually mean unlimited. What the providers do is add what is known as a "Fair Usage Policy" you'll find it in the small print of the contracts. You'll see that Sprint and most other mobile broadband providers place a 5 GB per month limit on data usage. The effect is that you are either throttled to a crawl or charged extra for monthly bandwidth that exceeds the providers predetermined limit.

Look at the Sprint terms and conditions: http://shop.sprint.com/en/legal/legal_terms_privacy_popup.shtml

"Data Usage Limitation (Mobile Broadband Cards, USB Modems, Embedded Modems and Phone-As-Modem):The amount of data transmitted over our network is measured in kilobytes (KB), megabytes (MB) or gigabytes (GB). Sprint reserves the right to limit throughput speeds or amount of data transferred; and to deny, terminate, modify, disconnect or suspend service if usage either exceeds (a.) 5GB/month in total"

Here is a Sprint user who was cancelled for exceeding the "Unlimited" limits. http://community.sprint.com/baw/message/169908

I have to give you a A for the effort though. You are really kind of screwed as far as broadband Internet goes if you cant get DSL or cable for home use. Satellite Internet is slow and expensive and has it's own Fair Usage Limits, and T1 as you stated is very expensive considering the relative slow speed of 1.55 Mbps.

      Good Luck...

The deal sounds pretty good but remember this is a entry to medium level laptop. This is not a gaming machine but will do fairly well for study and the blu-ray player is a nice touch, but you will have to connect via the HDMI to get value out of the Blu-ray.

Wireless Phone Sales

There are many sites that attempts to explain how cell phone jammers work. Along with that, cell phone jammers for sale spreads like a boomerang that made many people especially the government buy this device. Normally, cellular phone will transmit signal to its service provider to its tower or station thus, phone calls and text messaging can happen. Cell phone jammers for sale on the other hand will block the frequencies sent by the mobile phone to the service provider's tower so that the person will not be able to avail the services of the said telecommunication company.

Nowadays, technology is definitely beyond the unimaginable. Because of the abundance of it, terrorist attack killing millions of people can happen with just a press of the call button. Cell phone jammers for sale are a big help to government in order to intercept the transmission of a possible turmoil and great suffering. Cell phone jammers for sale are also a great help in hostage taking crisis because police can greatly intercept the phone calls made by the hostage taker. So there is no doubt that mobile phone jammers are helpful.

Wireless Phones Plans

Consumers' buying choices of cell phones are influenced by both the available features and the form. With every killer feature added and modification in forms made, the consumers keep changing their minds. I 00004000 t is almost a rage to get hold of the latest model. This guide is written with a focus on the basic features to help you arrive at a model which will serve the daily needs as well as be trendy.

Categorization by Features

Size and weight

Those bulkier and heavy weight models of the wireless phones are things of past. You will be amazed to find one weighing as low as 2 ounce with no compromise on the essential features. You have to decide based on your usage and lifestyle what features matter most to you.

The models are slightly heavier if you desire to use it as palm computer, wireless phone or as a camera phone or if the instrument is prone to rough use.

Display

Screen is one of the features you will want to consider before you buy one. The screen size is around 2 inches by 2 inches but you may want to see the world clearer and brighter with it. You may even want to see the web pages, still photographs, 3D games, music videos and TV. A slightly big screen with high resolution will satisfy the requirements. Go for the ones with TFT or Active Matrix screen as they provide a wider viewing angle than the LCD screens. They are also ideal for playing games and for taking and viewing video clips.

Many cellular screens handle information the way a computer would. The screens can download, process and store color images and displays. The quality however is not as good as computer screens and televisions and a lot depends on the resolution of the screen. Newer generations of cell phones have better displays with true color images, easier to work with and compact size. Screen resolution is thus an important feature that one can't afford to overlook.

Address book capacity

The name of your caller is flashed on the display, if the name is stored in the phone's address book. This is a common feature with most mobiles. There are some models capable of storing this information in the SIM card. This saves you the headache of typing in the name of the contacts each time you change your handset.

Ringing tones can help you identify your caller. The polyphonic ring tones too have become a standard feature with most handsets. You can look out for the models that can play MP3 songs as ring tones.

Cell phones come with address book capacity ranging from 100 to 1000 contacts.

Talk time and Standby time

The battery life of cell phones is expressed by either the talk time or by standby time. The total duration you can talk on your cell phone without recharging the battery is called the talk time. While the cell phone is in talk mode, it keeps on drawing additional power from the battery draining it fast.

Leaving the cell phone on without putting it to any other use too will discharge the batteries. This is standby time.

Wireless Phones

These days, virtually everyone has a wireless phone. While the phones were once favored only by business and medical professionals who needed to be available no matter where they were, these phones are now used by a wide variety of people. Wireless phones allow us to be easily reachable by not just our employers, but friends and family as well. This has created a new era of communication and has helped bring family and friends closer together. The cell phone has even made it 00004000 possible for people to stay safer, allowing them a way to call assistance when needed and allowing teens to keep in constant contact with parents when they are away from home.

The wireless phone serves a wide variety of purposes, and has come a long way since it was invented. Modern wireless phones are very small and have a number of features that are standard with landline telephones, such as caller identification and call waiting. Many wireless phones are capable of text messaging, and some can take pictures, record videos, play music, and even surf the Internet. These phones are growing quickly, and the amount of features offer to customers is expanding just as fast.

While wireless phone reception was poor in many areas when the phones were first developed, the widespread popularity of the devices combined with new technological advances has done a lot to improve this. Wireless phones are now capable of getting a signal almost anywhere, even on a boat or in a plane. Many consumers feel like they have a new sense of freedom since the development of wireless phone technology, and many people are even able to remain on call with their jobs without feeling as though they need to stay at home or within easy reach of a telephone in the event that they are paged.

Simply put, a wireless phone is almost a necessity in modern times. People of all ages and demographics now use the devices and they have made significant improvements in the daily lives of many people. Whether you are looking for a way to stay in contact with your employer or employees or are simply looking to stay better connected to friends and family, a wireless phone can help you do this. These small devices offer excellent convenience and portability as well as a wide range of functions that can help out in virtually any situation.

  7. QUESTION:
Why are there two lines of bars on many Verizon Wireless phones?
I have noticed that on many of the phones that Verizon Wireless there are two lines of bars in the upper left-hand side of the screen. The top line is labeled "EV" and the second line is labeled "1x". I was told that one of these is the connection for the internet and that the other was service. I would like some clarification on what exactly these two lines of bars actually are, thanks!

    • ANSWER:
The bottom bar 1x is how many bars you have to call people and send them text messages. EV stands for EV-DO which is a very fast downloader. So if you have internet, that's what it uses to prepare the web pages. Also if you are browsing the V CAST music catalog, you must have EV-DO coverage while browsing so you can download songs and whatnot faster.

  8. QUESTION:
can two wireless phones be converted to communicate like a full duplex radio?
presuming they work on the same frequency, can two wireless phones communicate with each other without the mother unit?

    • ANSWER:
the handset and base frequencies are 2 diffrent frequencies.

the base transmits both sides of the phone call to the handset(s) and the handset transmits only 1 side of the conversation.

while this as a project would be difficult if not impossible, because most modern cordless phones use some sort of FHSS, DSS, or other method for randomly changing channel, and are digital (encrypted) it would be difficult to test..

the best option for attempting this would be one of the first 25 channel cordless phones, but i doubt you will be able to find any...

many newer phones have an intercom feature between phones... I have a panasonic expandable DECT phone, with 4 handsets (i can expand upto 6) and i just need to press intercom, and the # for the handset that I want to call (1-6) and the handset rings, and can be answered like a normal phone call...

  9. QUESTION:
Is there any point in buying a dual band home router if my home wireless phones are 5Ghz?
Looking at buying a DLink N wireless home router that is dual band (2.4Ghz and 5Ghz). If my home phones are all 5Ghz is there any point in buying a dual band router? Whenever the router switches to 5Ghz it will just interfere with my telephones, wont it?

    • ANSWER:
The strange thing is no, they won't interfere. Not necessarily. I'm running a 2.4GHz wireless keyboard and mouse, and 2.4GHz WiFi, and they don't interfere. You should be fine.

Besides, even if using a dual band router doesn't work, you'll get better quality from that DLink than a cheaper brand.

  10. QUESTION:
Do the new unlocked phones work for the wireless cell phone company METROpcs? if so which phones work miami?
Iv heard of certain frequencies the phones require to work on certain spots do to tower outputs of frequency.. I desire to know what unlocked imported phones work in Miami FL by the METROpcs wireless phone company.. nokia has an estimate of 15 new unlocked phones... which would work with metro today?

    • ANSWER:
      They do not.

MetroPCS is cheap enough to make sure that ONLY their phones are usable with their service. You can't use other phones with their service, nor can you use their phones for other services.

It doesn't matter if it's unlocked.
MetroPCS doesn't have SIM cards, and you will not be able to activate your unlocked phone.

The verizon Wireless phones prepaid do they work good and how much do i pay for them and stuff like that

i have verizon and they are good and i love my phone. For 20 dollars a month you get unlimted messaging, that includes pic and video.

you also get to chose from plans and only pay for the days you call someone. so for 2.00 a day i get unlimted calls to verizon and alltel custmors, unlimted nights(after 9) and weekends, and calls made before 9 or to non verizon/alltel custmors cost me .5cents.

  13. QUESTION:
What Verizon Wireless phones have a pressure sensitive touch?
I'm looking for a new phone and the one I have (LG ENV Touch) is a pressure sensitive touch screen - I can use my nails to text. The one my husband has (Samsung Facinate) is heat sensitive touch screen - he uses the pads of his fingers and I don't like that aspect about it. Does Verizon Wireless carry a NEW Smartphone that I can use my nails to tap at?

    • ANSWER:
I don't think that there are many pressure sensitive phones from Verizon. There was the LG Voyager but I'm pretty sure that it has been discontinued. You could buy a new LG ENV Touch if you really want a pressure sensitive phone. I don't really like pressure sensitive phones, in my opinion, because they respond to pressure so when they're in a purse or in your pocket they call random people and just go crazy. You should get an HTC Droid Incredible. It's a heat sensitive touch screen phone but it's still awesome :)

  21. QUESTION:
I have a verizon wireless phone, and i was wondering how do i switch phones?
I have a verizon wireless phone, and i was wondering how do i switch phones since i bought a verizon wirless phone off ebay called the blacberry storm, and i just wanted to know how to go about activating it without changing my number or my plan since i am on a family plan.?
    can any one help?

    • ANSWER:
Dial *228 (option 3) from the new one, power the old one off first. Its an automated activation. However, it may connect you to verizon anyway since the Storm requires you have a 30/mo unlimited data package. All BlackBerrys do. And no, there is no getting around that. It wont affect the family plan or your contract, as the first guy suggested.

  22. QUESTION:
Out of all the Verizon Wireless phones available, which do you prefer?
I Am up for my new every two and was wondering if anyone has a particular verizon wireless phone that the prefer and if so, why? I am undecided and need some help picking. My only preference is I don't want a big and bulky phone and I want it to have a camera.

    • ANSWER:
I like the LGs (but not the chocolate). They are really reliable, and the battery has staying power for days.

I've had people complain so much about those new, fancy phones such as the Razr because they have so many bells and whistles that they aren't very reliable phones. For instance, my brother had a Razr and the keys got screwed up within a month of having it, so he had to get another one.

So, if you want reliability, try one of the basic LGs with a camera. If you want flashiness, try one of those Krazrs or Razrs or whatever they are called..haha.

  24. QUESTION:
Is it illegal to switch SIM cards between phones without advising the wireless phone company?
I have friends that do this all the time. I was just wondering if that was illegal or if they have to pay a fine every time they do it. Does the SIM card track your records and send it to the wireless phone company? It seems wierd!?

    • ANSWER:
It's perfectly legal cos they bill you for the cellular service and not the technology used to deliver the service. Cingular, T-Mobile, US Cellular support SIM technology, but they don't own the phone companies (e.g. Nokia, Siemens, etc).

The only thing they try and do to keep you on their network is to make some of the phones you get with their plans network "locked". For example, you get a free/discounted phone when you take out a plan with T-Mobile, there's a high probability that the phone will be "locked" to the T-Mobile network. U can change the SIMs in these phones too, but will only be able to use the cellular service if the SIM is to be use via their network and not a competitor. Get it?

  31. QUESTION:
Can anyone please explain the WiFi Capability for the Verizon Wireless phones?
I am looking at getting the Samsung Saga or the XV6800. They show they have the Wi–Fi Connectivity but is this only for connection on your mobile phone in a hotspot or so your wireless laptop can connect to your phone when your Wi–Fi Connectivity is on?? Thanks guys!

    • ANSWER:
The wifi feature allows you to connect to a wireless hotspot and your own wireless router at home or a friend's. Basically, it uses the wireless signal from the router the same way a laptop will.

It's a nice feature to have if the cell vendor's network signal is weak or down. I have a T-Mobile G1 that has the feature. I get their 3G network in DC where I work, but only Edge service where I live in Florida. So, if I want to download something or browse the net, I can turn on the wi-fi hardware and hook up to the router. You have to log in to the router with the security key if you use one.

This won't necessarily connect you to your laptop, but you'll be on the network.

  35. QUESTION:
Why wireless mobile phones are called cell phones?
I always wondered why wireless mobile phones are called cell phones , I am sure it has nothing to do with the battery they use. Does any one Know?

    • ANSWER:
      The other answers are close...

It was originally conceived (and is) a way to have a lot of "low power" transmitters arranged in a configuration that resembles "cells" like the cells of a honey-comb. As you move from one "cell" to the next, the phone call is handed off seamlessly from the antenna responsible for the cell you are in, to the cell tower in the cell you just moved into. If you have high population density (lots of people using phones in a given area) you can put up more antennas, and make the cells cover a smaller area.

Before "cellular" phones, mobile phones were really 2-way radio systems with a large, high power transmiter that covered tens to hundreds of miles from it's location, and if you moved too far away from one tower, you would just loose the signal. Calls were not handed off from one cell to the next as you moved along.

  36. QUESTION:
Do you think that wireless module phones will eventually put an end to traditional line-based telephone servic?
Do you think that wireless module phones will eventually put an end to traditional line-based telephone service, or do you think that there will always be a role for line-based telephone service? Please explain your reasoning.

    • ANSWER:
      No.
The airwaves are congested enough, and in realistic terms, there is only so much bandwidth for voice/data on these towers....
Data transmission technologies will improve, true, but the airwaves are still rather limited. Only certain frequencies are usable for this technology right now...and they are all being used (mostly)

Also, there are still places in this world (contrary to many people's beliefs) where wireless service is NOT available, or not reliable yet - even in the G20 or G8 countries. Only wired services will work in some of those places... Some of these places will never get wireless services, due to the high cost of giving the service to only a few people. Phone companies are driven by profit, not by community good will...
